In this blog, we are going to learn why it is essential to clean the WeatherTech floor mats and how to do it. More often than not, people presume that these mats are easy to clean, but that is far from the truth. Maintaining the WeatherTech floor mats is of utmost importance to keep their longevity and newness. There are specific WeatherTech floor mat cleaners that one can use to maintain the mats, and that is precisely what we’ll be looking at in this blog.
WeatherTech Floor Mat
First, the thing that makes WeatherTech mats unique is their material. They are made of rubber-type material, which is multipurpose. It protects the car’s floor from water and various types of dirt, allowing the mats the longevity we need. Secondly, they can endure adverse conditions and give heavy-duty protection.
Compared to the standard mats, WeatherTech mats give your money’s worth. They might be slightly in the higher price range, but if you are a frequent user, instead of changing your mat now and then, the Weathertech mat will last you longer.
WeatherTech Mat Specification
- These mats are made for longevity and high protection. They give the car protection in adverse weather conditions like dirt, water, and sand. They are also customizable. So, once you get your customized mat, it will automatically aesthetically improve the looks of your car.
- These also have anti-skid ridges on the bottom. This prevents them from moving while driving. The ridges formed due to this also require a particular way of cleaning.
How to Clean a WeatherTech Floor Mat
Cleaning the WeatherTech floor mats is a multistep process but not very difficult. The number of steps tends to scare a few people, but you only have to do it every once to keep the mat’s durability and newness.
1.1 Dust off the mat – Before we start washing or cleaning the mat, the first step is to dust and shake off all the dirt from the mat. This makes the cleaning process easy as it removes the superficial dirt stuck to the mat and the bigger particles of mud or sand.
1.2 Water wash the mat – After dusting off all the bigger particles of dirt, mud, and sand off the mat, it is time to hose it down. Wash the mat with a hose at an optimal speed. This helps remove most of the dirt with the force or pressure of the water (you can also wash the mat in a tub under a tap if the hose is not handy).
- 3 Detergent Cleaning – Once you have washed your mat with water, you can spray an All-Purpose Cleaner (APC) or any detergent/dish soap over the mat to cover it. Let it rest for a couple of minutes. You can also mix the detergent/dish soap in the water in your tub and soak the mat for a few minutes. The idea is to let the detergent/dish soap or APC work on the hard dirt and make them removable.
It is recommended not to use harsh or strong degreasers as they may be abrasive to the mat. They may cause wear and damage to the mat, which is not covered in the WeatherTech Warranty.
- 4 Scrubbing – To scrub the mat, use a soft mat cleaner or a scrubber. This allows you to remove the dirt from all the nooks and corners of the mat. You can do the same to clean the ridges. It helps the mat with its longevity and protects the car better.
1.5 Rinse and Dry – The final step is to rinse the mat under the tap (or with a hose) to remove all the dirt from the pores and ridges. Then air-dry it for a while and dry it with a towel or a cleaning cloth. Once dried, you can place the mat back in the car.
It is crucial to keep in mind not to use harsh methods, chemical or physical, to clean the WeatherTech floor mats. These may cause damage or wear out, which is then irreparable. To avoid that, use the steps mentioned above and suitable cleaners.
